What are Keytones
Ketone bodies are fatty acid metabolizes released during lipolysis (fat breakdown) in the liver, and any excess that is unused spills over to your urine. The presence of ketones means that the body is processing it's own fat stores as a fuel source of glucose (sugar). In an average healthy person, the benefit of being in koto sis (fat burning state) is that you force the body to mobilize lipids (fat stores) to be converted into energy to be used in the body's cells, organs, and brain. This adaption of using ketones for energy (lipolysis instead of glycolysis) can take anywhere from 2 days to 7 days, depending on the person, and the foods they consume. Any amount of gluten, carbohydrates, or sugars consumed will be pushed to the front of the line and used for energy as it is MUCH easier to break down fat storage (lipolysis). Why do some people never attain a positive ketone test? My guess is hidden sugars, starches, or too much fructose (fruit sugars) in their diet.
In order to see if I am in key toss I use Ketosticks. What are ketosticks? Keytosticks are strips that you can buy at any pharmacy which test the level of keystones in your system. The ketones are tested by urinating on the strip, which then (in 15 seconds) changes colors based on the amount of ketones in you system.
